Position Summary:
The Systems Engineer (SE) will work with clients (business unit or any related stake holder) to create solutions that meet their requirements and parallels overall business strategy. The SE develops functional specifications based on the client's requirements and will actively coordinate and maintain the interaction between the Product Development (PD) team and the client. This person is responsible for ensuring solutions created by PD meet client's current needs, and for evolving solutions over time as the client's needs change. The Systems Engineer may provide technical project management and collaborate with Web Services, project managers, architects, developers, database administrators, operations and Quality Assurance (QA) in the design and implementation of systems. He/she will also ensure TALX standards are maintained for system design, scalability, performance, and technical features, as well as provide mentoring for the Associate Systems Engineers.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop Functional Specifications that satisfy client requirements
  • Analyze client requirements and their impact in other services and features
  • Facilitate specification meetings to clarify client system requirements and to develop a functional design that satisfies all client requirements
  • Collaborate with team members, clients, and other stake holders to review and refine requirements
  • Actively participate in problem resolution
  • Accommodate demands by clients, setting priorities when appropriate and escalating issues when needed
  • Coordinate and perform unit and integration testing
  • Work with clients and stake holders to obtain functional specification approval before development begins
  • Work with clients and Web Services to ensure appropriate usability analysis
  • Work with clients and QA to ensure appropriate testing procedures are employed
  • Develop or assist project managers in developing implementation plans, including the scheduling of project milestones
  • Identify out of scope requests and work with clients to determine an appropriate resolution 
  • Identify risks and proactively minimize the impact
  • Be responsible for client and other stake holder satisfaction in the functional and technical performance of systems
  • Provide clients with ongoing support for applications
  • Collaborate with web services, developers, database administrators, operations and quality assurance in the design of all assigned systems; maintaining TALX design and development standards
  • Communicate project status to client, Product Development management, and other project stake holders 
  • Meet defined business unit and other stake holder deadlines for all tasks on assigned projects
  • Develop and maintain positive and profitable relationships with clients
  • May act as the business unit's advocate in Product Development 
  • May direct, plan, and monitor work for others to meet project deadlines
  • May provide architectural guidance to development team to ensure solution meets TALX standard architectural guidelines, security requirements, scalability needs, performance needs, and provides a solution which can sustain change in a reasonable manner over the lifecycle of the solution 
  • Turn systems over to TALX operations teams within 2 weeks of system live date 
  • Keep technical skills and knowledge of TALX technologies current
  • Stay abreast of current best practices in systems analysis and design      
  • May conduct project team meetings and other project related events (requirements reviews, specification reviews, etc) 
  • Maintain the highest level of integrity, courtesy, respect, and professionalism while interacting with clients, project team members, TALX employees, and business contacts
  • Work with team members to develop accurate and realistic project milestones and timelines while at the same time working to fulfill any client specific timeframe needs and/or expectations 
  • Utilize Time Reporting, System Development tools and other professional tools as assigned by management
  • Support and maintenance of existing applications as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, software engineering or computer science and 2 or more years of technical experience in the field or related area
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good technical knowledge in software development methodologies, design and implementation
  • Good analytical and design skills, good skills in research and analysis, project planning and implementation, and understanding of entire development process, including specification, documentation, and quality assurance         
  • Work independently and has built good relationships with the business unit
